MuleSoft Anypoint Platform - MuleSoft - 101
What is MuleSoft and Anypoint Platform?
MuleSoft is a software company that provides integration software for connecting applications, data and devices. The company’s main product is called Anypoint Platform, and is designed to integrate software as a service (SaaS), on-premises software, legacy systems, and more.
Applications for the Anypoint Platform (usually called Mule apps) run under the so-called Mule runtime engine, which is Java-based. Technically, it is not necessary to know Java in order to create Mule apps, unless you’re going to develop custom connectors.
Anypoint Platform Tools
Anypoint Platform includes the following tools:
- A web interface for designing, building and managing APIs. The site main components are:
- Design Center: allows API developers to design and build APIs, mainly by editing API specifications in RAML, an API modeling language similar to OAS/Swagger.
- Exchange: a library for API providers to share APIs, templates, and assets.
- Management Center: an interface to analyze, manage, and monitor APIs and integrations.
- A modified version of the Eclipse IDE called Anypoint Studio, with which you can:
- Build APIs through RAML.
- Implement APIs using so-called connectors.
- Graphically build integrations by creating Mule apps.
- Develop new Mule modules (such as custom connectors) in Java using Mule SDK, in order to use them in other Mule apps.
